A BMW, driven by a 25-year-old man, crashed into a Renault Duster before ramming one of the boundary walls of a government colony in South Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar in the early hours of Sunday. Both the drivers as well as a co-passenger in the BMW, a woman in her twenties, sustained minor injuries.

The Duster was being driven by Adil Amin, a medical student. According to the police, neither of the drivers tested positive for alcohol in their blood stream.

A police officer said the accident took place around 3-30 a.m. “Adil, a final-year MBBS student at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College of Safdarjung Hospital, was returning to his hostel from Chanakyapuri. Around the same time a speeding BMW was coming from the opposite direction at a traffic signal near Sarojini Nagar’s Railway Colony. The two vehicles collided at the signal,” he said.

But the BMW did not come to a halt after the collision, and went on to hit the boundary wall of the government colony causing further damage.

The driver of the BMW was later identified as Aryan (25), son of a businessman in Kirti Nagar. It is alleged that he lost control over the vehicle, leading to the accident. At that time, Aryan was accompanied by a friend in her early twenties. The police have ruled out that the driver of the BMW was intoxicated.

As the accident took place a few steps away from Sarojini Nagar police station, a police team immediately reached the crime spot and rushed all the three injured to AIIMS Trauma Centre. All of them were discharged after medical aid.

“The couple and the medical student received minor injuries. The statement of both the parties have been recorded and accordingly a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered at the Sarojini Nagar police station,” the officer added.
