A minor spark followed by smoke was reported in the metro coming from Gurugram and going towards Samaypur Badli on Wednesday morning. The train was then evacuated at Rajiv Chowk metro station and sent to the depot for inspection.

“The smoke was reported from the AC of the last coach. The sparks first appeared when the train entered Central Secretariat station and again when it reached Rajiv Chowk,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official.

Brief panic

However, the incident caused panic among commuters who were scared for their life. ”There was panic for a brief period but they were accommodated in the next train. The services were resumed shortly,” said the official.

In another incident, a minor fire broke out in the kitchen of a restaurant in CP on Wednesday evening. According to a Delhi Fire Services officer, three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and no injuries were reported. The fire was doused within an hour.
