Mayor inspects unauthorised colonies

Residents of unauthorised and rural neighbourhoods in south Delhi will soon get better municipal facilities, South Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said on Friday.

While inspecting the unauthorised colonies around Mehrauli and Bhatti, Ms. Sehrawat, ordered that poor-lit areas be identified and streetlights either be repaired or installed. She also ordered that facilities in primary health care centres be improved.

Unsafe areas

“While inspection, we also saw many unsafe areas, not just for women but for everyone. I have ordered the officials to inspect such areas and install high voltage lights there, to ensure safety of residents,” said Ms. Sehrawat.

Visiting the newly constructed dispensaries in Fatehpur Beri and Chandanhaula, she ordered officials to complete repair work. Officials said lifts, boundary walls, and other menial repairs will be completed in a month.

She said that unauthorised neighbourhoods deserve the best health, sanitation and infrastructural facilities as much as any other posh localities. The engineering department was also ordered to repair and tar small roads under the civic body.

The Mayor also requested the residents to keep their surrounding clean and contribute to the Swachh Bharat Mission initiated by the Prime Minister.

Residents were asked to use trash bins for disposing household garbage and refrain from spitting and throwing wrappers, plastic, and bottles on the road.

Parking woes

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel said the problems of parking in residential areas were also discussed. Officials have been asked to mark areas which can be used by residents for parking their vehicles, as most of the roads outside their buildings are too narrow to accommodate the vehicles for all the residents.
