The Delhi police arrested a 38-year-old man on Friday for allegedly strangulating his father and then burning his body inside a car.

The police had recovered the charred remains of a man inside a gutted Maruti Esteem car in south west Delhi’s Kapashera on Thursday. The victim was later identified as 65-year-old Subhash Baweja who was strangulated to death after being thrashed with a baseball bat. Investigations revealed that Baweja was killed by his son Abhinav at their house in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar. Baweja had allegedly refused to transfer his property in his son’s name. Police said Subhash owned several properties in Delhi and NCR and Abhinav wanted the Kirti Nagar property to be transferred in his name.

“Abhinav had plans to sell the property to arrange funds to start his own business,” the police said.

Police said Abhinav had an argument with Subhash on Wednesday and in a fit of rage had attacked his father with a baseball bat. He had then strangled him and then took the body in the car and set the car on fire at Kapashera.
