Urging people to vote for BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives are a living example of the benefits which come with absolute majority.

In her 20-minute address to a crowd of not more than 200 people at the “historic” ‘purana’ bus stand in Tri Nagar Assembly segment she barely made a mention of party’s chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi. The Union Minister was campaigning for the party’s local candidate Dr Nand Kishore Garg.

“Narendra Modi is a living example of benefits of complete majority,” she said while asking people to vote for BJP. The only time Ms. Irani mentioned Ms Bedi was when she asked people to vote for Dr Nand Kishore and said “voters of Tri Nagar can help establish 'Tri-murti' of Narendra Modi, Dr Nand Kishore and Kiran Bedi.”

Tri Nagar is a mix of cultures and largely comprises middle class families.

Hitting a chord with the audience and in an oblique reference to Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, Ms Irani said, “People staying in Tri Nagar are hard working. They start their day with a prayer to God to give them strength to earn through right means. However, Goddess Lakshmi does not come holding someone’s hand or riding on a broom. Goddess Lakshmi comes on a lotus flower.”

The HRD minister was all praises for Mr. Modi as she spoke about Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojna and how he ensures that each Rupee that leaves the exchequer reaches the public.

She also lambasted Congress for using force on people when they were protesting against December 16 gang rape and also when they staged protest against corruption. “When the hand could not grab everything, the broom was introduced,” she remarked, saying how AAP was just a front of Congress.

Before Ms Irani reached Tri Nagar, a street play was enacted which was more a spoof of Mr. Kejriwal, who was repeatedly called ‘muffler wala’.

Meanwhile, Dr Kishore promised more parking, decongestion and relaying of sewerage. He referred to Arvind Kejriwal as ‘crazywal’ when he spoke about why people should not vote for AAP.
