Japanese company’s HR head was shot at last week; security tightened

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted on Wednesday to investigate the case pertaining to the anonymous letter to the Mitsuba Sical Limted, a Japanese automobile parts company, threatening the management of dire consequences.

The management had received the letter days after its human resource (HR) department head was shot at on June 7.

The team

Commissioner of Police (Gurugram) Sandeep Khirwar, said the SIT will be headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sumit Kuhar, and comprise an Assistant Commissioner of Police-rank officer and Station House Officer (Bilaspur), besides others.

HR official Dinesh Kumar, who was shot at, has also been provided security in view of the threat to his life. Dinesh’s father Rati Ram Sharma said that he would also seek licence for a weapon in view of increased threat to his son’s life.

Mr. Khirwar said that the licence will be granted after the family applies for it. He said that a PCR van will also be deployed near the company’s premises to ensure security of the management officials.

Mr. Kumar, 50, was on his way to office in Pathreri village on June 7, when two men on a motorcycle shot at him at Bilaspur Chowk. The assailants targeted his head, but the car jumped over the speed breaker and the Mr. Kumar received the bullet in his neck.

Two persons, Joginder and Daya Chand Master, have been arrested in the case.

Mr. Kumar’s family said that Joginder, who was sacked from the company three months ago, had been issuing threats to him. Joginder is a resident of neighbouring Rathiwas village and worked as an apprentice in the company. Mr. Kumar was also issued death threat a day before the attack, the family claimed.

The plant head received a letter earlier this week which “requested” the company to sack Mr. Kumar failing which, his colleagues would be in trouble.

A case has been registered on charges of criminal intimidation at Bilaspur police station in this connection.
