Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia Wednesday launched a web portal of the Delhi Archives where people can get records dating all the way back to 1803.

The government said that the Delhi Archives is a custodian of records of the Delhi government and was established in 1972 with an aim to preserve the archival heritage of the city.

The department has archival records pertaining to the heritage of the city from 1803 onwards.

Over four crore documents are available at the archives out of which 1.6 crore have been digitised. Around 60 lakh pages have been uploaded.

Setting record straight

Mr. Sisodia said that history is often distorted by people these days and that anybody with a mobile phone is coming up with different versions of history. The digitisation of the archives, he said, will stop any attempt at ‘polluting’ the history of the city.

Under the project, four crore pages of records are being digitised and microfilmed within a span of 30 months and will be uploaded on the website of the department for access to the public.

“The main objective of this project is to facilitate the access of archival and property records to the general public and research scholars. Anyone can access these records through dedicated portal by registering his/her credentials on http:// archives.delhi.gov.in
