Sisodia inaugurates ‘world-class’hockey field in east Delhi school

Premises to have seating capacity of 350, water harvesting tank

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday inaugurated a world-class synthetic hockey field at a government school in east Delhi. This is the third such court created in a government school by the AAP government.

The ground has been checked for standards by experts from the International Hockey Federation, which organises the Hockey World Cup, said the government.

The hockey field, which has a seating capacity of 350, will also have a water harvesting tank, a pump room, equipment rooms and changing rooms.

“This is the third AstroTurf world-class hockey field inaugurated by the government after the ones at GBSSS, Gummanhera, and SBV Ashok Nagar. The AstroTurf set up at these schools offer a world-class experience to the players to practice their skills at their convenience and free of cost,” an official statement read.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Sisodia said earlier children from East Delhi used to go to private training centres due to a lack of facilities at their schools.

“But we have tried to address this issue and today we have a number of sports facilities in different schools in east Delhi. While Baburam school has an upcoming volleyball court, construction is under way for a hockey court at Vivekananda College. Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya is also going to have sports facilities soon,” he said.
