A 32-year-old shopkeeper was shot dead by two men in east Delhi’s Ghazipur on Wednesday night, the police said on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said that the deceased has been identified as Shamin who was shot just below his neck.
‘Asked for directions’
The police said they received a PCR call was around 11.30 p.m. During investigation, it was revealed that Shamin was with his cousin and a friend on the road near the landfill in the area, when two persons came and asked them for some direction. “The cousin [of the deceased] said that the accused asked them for directions and soon the conversation turned into a fierce argument,” Mr. Singh said.
The two sides parted ways following the argument. However, the accused allegedly returned after a few minutes and shot at Shamin and fled.
Shamin was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The police said that a case under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder) has been registered and an investigation is under way.
“CCTV footage from the area is being examined. There are a few leads based on which teams are working. Statements of witnesses have been recorded,” said a senior police officer.
‘Not acquaintances’
Shamin’s cousin also stated that they did not know the accused, the police said. They, however, have not ruled out the angle of personal enmity and said they are investigating the matter from all angles.
