The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth ₹7.3 crore of Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in the case of sexual assault of 34 girl inmates of a shelter home in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur.
The properties include 26 land parcels, three vehicles and the amount kept in 37 bank accounts, besides investments in mutual funds and insurance policies. The accused had control over the Sewa Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti under which the shelter home functioned.
The ED probe revealed that Mr. Thakur was the de-facto owner of the shelter home. Kumari Asha, his wife, was the executive member of Sewa Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti. “Huge funds were received by this NGO from the government and other sources that were meant to be spent on the welfare of girl children and others,” said the agency.
It was alleged that the funds were not used for the stated objectives. They were illegally diverted for acquisition of properties and personal use by Mr. Thakur and his family members. Documents gathered during investigation revealed that donation from other sources and government grants to the tune of ₹7.57 crore were received between 2011 and 2017
However, it turned out that more than ₹1.53 crore was transferred from the bank accounts of Sewa Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti to those of Thakur, his relatives and Pratah Kamal, owned by his son Rahul Anand.
