Rahul Anwar, who surrendered along with two of his accomplices hours after killing a 53-year-old boutique owner and her domestic help, allegedly told the police that he was frustrated with the victim because “she did not care for him”.

Fashion designer Mala Lakhani and her domestic help Bahadur were found murdered in her farmhouse in Vasant Kunj Enclave on Wednesday. Lakhani ran a boutique in Green Park. Three persons, including her employee Rahul, were arrested in connection with the incident, the police said.

“During interrogation, Rahul said he had been working for Lakhani for over three years but she never asked if he needed anything. She did not ask if he had eaten or if he was fine,” said a senior officer.

Rahul, who is the prime accused, allegedly told the investigators that he felt resentful towards the victim.

“He said that all she cared about was work and if he asked for money, she would rebuke him,” the officer said.

The accused said he was expecting to find about Rs. 1crore at the house during the robbery.

“When questioned how he knew that the victim would have that amount, the accused did not have a convincing answer. He said he knew about her business and how much she profit she made, and hence made a guess,” the officer said.

The post-mortem of the victims was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital on Friday, the police said, adding that the bodies have been handed over to Lakhani’s family.

“Bahadur’s body was handed over to the Lakhani family for last rites because his family’s whereabouts could not be traced. Also, the Lakhani treated him as family,” the officer said.
