A 62-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly supplying ammunition to criminals in Delhi-NCR, the police said on Saturday.
They claimed to have recovered 2,000 live cartridges from his possession.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Dr. Ram Gopal Naik said the accused has been identified as Amarlal from Punjab’s Abohar. The police said they were developing information after arresting two arms suppliers regarding where they get the ammunition from.
Following specific information regarding the accused, they laid a trap and he was arrested on Friday from Sonia Vihar, they said adding, he had come there to deliver a huge cache of ammunition.
“A total of 1,000 live cartridges of .32 pistol and 1000 live cartridges of .315 were recovered from his possession,” Mr. Naik said.
During interrogation, he allegedly told police that he used to work as a salesman in a gun shop. After this, he started his own gun shop. “He suffered huge loss and due to illness in his family, he started to sell ammunition illegally to criminals in 2002 and also helped people get fake arms licences,” Mr. Naik said.
