A 64-year-old Overseas Citizen of India was arrested from the premises of Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment on charges of theft, the police said on Saturday.

A senior officer said Mukesh Chopra, who has dual citizenship of Canada and the United States of America, resides in the city’s Vasant Kunj area.

The police said Mr. Chopra’s movements inside the premises of Manekshaw Centre were found suspicious after which he was interrogated by the security staff. “He claimed that he visits the place often as he is an ex-serviceman. He was found in possession of a few books that he had taken from inside the building. The security staff then informed the police,” the officer said.

After this, the senior citizen was taken to Delhi Cantonment police station. Following the protocol, the district police informed Special Cell and other security agencies, including Intelligence Bureau, who interrogated him.

Further probe

“A case under Section 379 (punishment for theft) of the IPC has been registered. Further investigation is under way,” the officer said.
