The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to submit a report on illegal encroachments and unregulated markets in south-west Delhi’s Kapashera.

Directing the Deputy Commissioner of SDMC to furnish the report, a Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel issued the directions following a report submitted by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

Steps taken by DPCC

The Tribunal noted that even though the status report submitted by the DPCC talks of “certain steps” that have been taken, it is not clear whether “effective steps have been taken on the ground.”

“Let a report be filed in the matter before the next date by the SDMC Deputy commissioner,” the Bench said while posting the matter for July 25.

The directions came when the green panel was hearing a plea moved by city resident Narendra Vats who contended that illegal encroachments and unregulated markets have come up at Samalkha Extension area.

The plea alleged that the municipal solid waste and other garbage generated by the hotels near the airport is not being disposed of scientifically.
