To mark the International Day of the Girl Child on Wednesday, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will inaugurate the ‘pink toilets’ for women with exclusive facilities.

First-of-its-kind

The first-of-its-kind model will have vending machines for sanitary napkins, incinerator facilities and feeding area for breastfeeding mothers. The first of the pink toilets will be inaugurated at PVR Vikaspuri.

The south Delhi mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat, standing committee chairperson Bhupender Gupta, leader of the house Shikha Rai, Deputy Mayor Kailash Sankla and leader of opposition Ramesh Matiala will be present at the inauguration.

“Women suffer the most when they step out to shop or meet a friend or a relative because there are not enough washrooms for them, which also have facilities for safe disposal of sanitary napkins,” said Ms. Sehawat.

She said that more such facilities will come up across south Delhi for the convenience of women. “We are working towards providing clean and healthy spaces for the residents here,” Ms. Sehrawat said.
