SDMC has no cement due to missing file

June 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

It’s not due to lack of funds, but confusion over the whereabouts of a file that has left the Central storeroom of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation without any cement.

Maintenance works, including repairs of school buildings, kerbs and park boundary walls, have been held up as there isn’t any cement. Congress councillor from Mehrauli Pushpa Singh informed the Standing Committee that works had stopped as there was no cement.

Engineer-in-Chief Ravi Dass admitted: “Yes, it’s true there is no cement. My department had given the proposal six months ago, but we don’t know what happened to the file.”

Reacted sharply, SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel objected to Mr. Dass’ statements. The meeting devolved into a heated war of words between the Commissioner and the Engineer-in-Chief, with the former accusing the latter of never mentioning the issue in any of the weekly meetings.

Sources said the disagreement was more about Mr. Dass’ tenure, which will come to an end on July 31. A senior SDMC official said Mr. Dass had asked for an extension, which had been turned down by the Commissioner.
