A 22-year-old man was killed when a speeding car hit his scooter from behind following an accident in north-west Delhi on Friday.

The driver has been arrested, the police said. Vikas, a resident of Burari, was on the Ring Road flyover between Wazirpur and Azadpur when his two-wheeler was hit by the car being driven by Saurav Goyal, a resident of Rohini.

Police said that the witness, Pankaj Gaur, told them that the driver first brushed against his car and then sped away in an attempt to escape. He then hit Vikas’ scooty. “The deceased fell off the flyover because of the impact,” said a senior police officer.

Rash and negligent

The victim was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The locals managed to apprehend the driver.

The police said that a medical exam of Saurav was conducted to check whether he was drunk at the time of the incident.

“The body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem. A case has been registered on charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence,” the officer added.
