A day after a panel of doctors decided to abort the foetus of a 10-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by her step-father, the doctors at Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak on Thursday initiated the process of the medical termination of pregnancy.
Gitl stable
“The procedure for the medical termination of the pregnancy of the girl was initiated around noon today [Wedensday], it may take 12 to 24 hours for the entire process to be over. The condition of the girl is said to be stable,” said Child Welfare Committee (Rohtak), Chairman, R.S. Sangwan.
Mr. Sangwan said the CWC had decided to treat the girl as CNCP (Child In Need, Care & Protection) under Juvenile Justice Act and help her family. “With the help of District Child Protection Unit, the CWC will provide ₹2,000 per month to her mother till she turns 18. We will also cover her younger sister under the Sponsorship programme,” said Mr. Sangwan.
Court leaves it PGIMS
The case had come to the notice of the CWC on May 10 and the victim was found to be 18-22 weeks pregnant. The girl's mother then moved court seeking abortion and the court decided to leave it to the medical board of the PGIMS, Rohtak to take call. The medical board on Tuesday decided to terminate the pregnancy in the interest of the child.
