In another case of road rage, an enraged driver attempted to bite his fellow driver’s finger after their cars brushed in North-West Delhi on Saturday evening.
According to the police, the incident was reported around 8 p.m. at Bharat Nagar. Siddharth, who was aboard a Honda City, dented a Tata Indica being driven by Dharmendra, who was returning from airport.
“There was an altercation between the two, according to eyewitnesses, at the end of which the driver of the Indica bit the other driver’s finger,” said a senior police officer.
“Dharmendra claims he reacted violently after he was cornered and assaulted by the driver of the other car and its occupants. It was only after bystanders intervened that they let him go. Siddharth says the accused wanted to bite his hand as soon as he forced him to halt to claim damages,” the officer said.
Siddharth, a resident of Model Town, also told the police that he was ‘simply rebuking Dharmendra for driving rashly’ when he grabbed hold of his right hand, and ‘put it in his mouth’.
The police said a case of rash and negligent driving and under other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code had been registered, and Dharmendra had been arrested.
This is the third incident of road rage in Bharat Nagar in the last two weeks. A few days ago, a youth travelling on a scooty was beaten up by a car driver.
According to the police, nearly 100 road rage cases were reported in 2014 as against 53 in 2013.
Meanwhile, in a bid to curb road rage incidents in the Capital, a team led by Ajay Pandey, a former Indian Air Force officer, has launched a campaign in which three-wheeler drivers will be asked to take a pledge to prevent unnecessary arguments and violence on the road.
