Retired Colonel sustains burns

A 72-year-old retired Army officer sustained burns on Wednesday after a leaking gas cylinder resulted in a fire at his apartment in north-west Delhi’s Keshavpuram, the police said.

The injured has been identified as Colonel (retd.) Y.P. Pokhriyal, they added.

The police were informed about the incident around 12.49 p.m., following which a team rushed to the spot.

11% burns

Colonel (retd.) Pokhriyal was rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment, a senior police officer said. Colonel (retd.) Pokhriyal has sustained 11% burns, he added.

Investigations revealed that the victim was cooking when leakage from the gas cylinder led to a fire inside his house. He lives alone in the apartment, the police said.
