The residents of The Crest in DLF Phase-V on Sunday morning carried out a cleanliness drive in the Aravalis with an objective to clean it.

Armed with garbage bags and gloves, the residents picked up plastic bottles and food wrappers off the ground. They plucked off plastic bags and other non-biodegradable wastes from branches of trees.

The residents collected more than 200 kg of plastic waste in 30 minutes.

“Considering the rising pollution and deteriorating condition of green environment in the city, it is a need of the hour that we contribute our bit in conserving the nature. Aravali is a beautiful green area but we noticed that there is a lot of plastic waste in the region. If the authorities concerned are not taking care then we should. We started this drive in April and plan to continue it. This time, the number of participants has doubled,” said Anshul Bhalla, a resident.

‘Spread awareness’

“We are hoping that this little initiative would spread awareness among people and they would also do their bit in their own way,” he added. The drive was organised exclusively by the residents with the oldest participant being 65 and the youngest only 4. Expats from the community also joined hands for the initiative.

“Plastic is against the preservation of greenery because it can destroy the natural resource of nutrition for them. Our first target is to remove maximum plastic from the Aravalis and then encourage people to dispose of such waste in a proper manner,” said Ashwani, another resident.
