Remove encroachments in forest areas: HC

October 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi High Court has passed new directions for stopping encroachments in the forest areas of the Capital and appointed Delhi government's Public Works Department Secretary to supervise the removal of unauthorised occupants. The Secretary will report to the Court about the action taken on this front.

A Division Bench comprising Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva passed the orders earlier this week after it was told that rampant construction in Delhi had led to shrinking of the green cover.

The Court observed that the Capital's aerial photographs had depicted a rapid deforestation that had contributed to air pollution in the city. It directed the PWD Secretary to file a status report within four weeks and asked the Commissioner of Police to depute an officer within a week to assist him in carrying out his work.
