Rectified spirit worth ₹8 crore seized

The police and the Excise Department claimed to have arrested two men and seized 83,000 litres of rectified spirit with an estimated value of ₹8 crore.

The rectified spirit was being ferried to Delhi in three tankers.

A senior officer said the police received a tip-off, following which the joint team found three tankers stationed near a private dental college in Masuri here loaded with rectified spirit. It was being used to make spurious diesel, petrol and liquor.

The tankers were smuggled from Lakhimpur Kheri district and headed to an oil company in Delhi. The accused have been identified as truck driver Dharamvir and buyer Rashid.
