The railways and airports are gearing up to tackle fog, which is expected to be worse this year in north India due to a partial monsoon.
The railways have cancelled more trains than they did last year, while the airport authorities are hoping disruptions will be less than last year, when intense fog affected 600 flights at the Delhi airport.
More fog safety devices have been installed on trains, especially those passing through the Northern, North-Western and East-Central zones.
The railways will also bank on the tried and tested detonators to warn drivers of an approaching signal in foggy conditions.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation may ban flights that do not have CAT-IIIB Instrument Landing Systems for low visibility conditions. Last year, it had taken action against Jet, Indigo and GoAir for not deploying pilots trained to fly under foggy conditions.
