DU students caught sharing question papers on WhatsApp

June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:39 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Question papers of two law subjects at Delhi University’s School of Open Learning were allegedly leaked for two consecutive days on Monday and Tuesday.

While three students were arrested for distributing the paper of Corporate Law on Monday, four others were arrested on Tuesday for distributing the paper of Company Act and Financial Analysis.

According to the police, the students were caught sharing question papers on the internet messaging application WhatsApp.

Satish Kumar, OSD, Examinations, said, “Four persons were on Tuesday caught by the flying squad while they were circulating the question paper on WhatsApp at an examination centre in Shastri Nagar. On Monday, three persons were caught at the same centre circulating paper.”

The officials contacted the police.

“We have arrested seven students in connection with the paper leak. A case has been registered and we are trying to trace the source of the leak,” Madhur Verma, DCP, North, said.

“The students arrested on Monday have been identified as Deepak Verma, Mohit Sharma and Mohit Bhandari. They were found in possession of an advance copy of the question paper along with solutions on WhatsApp of their mobile phones,” he said.

Last week, the question papers for English, Economics and Financial Management were reportedly leaked in the same manner.

However, the college authorities had then dismissed the reports as “rumours”, claiming there is a strict mechanism in place to keep a check on such incidents.

C S Dubey, chairperson of the Campus of Open Learning and governing body of SOL, had earlier ruled out it to be a case of leak saying the papers could have been circulated on WhatsApp after the examination started.

Mr. Dubey on Tuesday said that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
