A nearly five-foot-long python was rescued by a non-government organisation from the lawn of a house in Sector 54 here on Tuesday night.
The snake is currently kept under observation, a statement by the NGO read.
Late night call
A late night call on the Wildlife SOS 24-hour helpline alerted the team to the presence of a python in a house located in Gurugram.
The family was out for a walk in their front lawn when they heard a rustling sound coming from a row of potted plants. A closer look revealed a python nestled between the pots.
As there was not enough space between the pots, the team had to be extremely cautious while extricating the python.
Sankalp Jain, who made the call, said, “There is a small forested area nearby so the python must have come out from there.”
‘Ignorance’
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder and CEO, Wildlife SOS, said, “Indian rock pythons are very often mistaken to be dangerous and face extreme threat due to prevalent misunderstanding and ignorance among the public. These reptiles are non-venomous and often get killed when they venture into human settlements.”
