PWD pulled up over traffic mess on RTR flyover

May 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Public Works Department (PWD) was pulled up by the Delhi High Court for the traffic snarl on the single-lane flyover at Rao Tula Ram Marg in South Delhi every day. A public interest litigation was filed in the Chief Justice’s court stating that the road-widening work by the PWD had been delayed.

“Why do you delay your projects so much?...inform us within two weeks about the steps you have taken on the smooth flow of the traffic,” said a Bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw.

The Rao Tula Ram Marg flyover, which was constructed before the 2010 Commonwealth Games, has become a traffic bottleneck. The Delhi government, traffic police and the forest and wildlife department were also asked to file a status report as to whether permissions for felling trees were in place for the road widening in the first place. May 13 has been given as the date to file the status report.
