The Delhi police on Tuesday registered a First Information Report against a man in connection with sharing a fake and doctored audio clip with voices of Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president Amit Shah.
“Delhi police have registered a case under relevant sections of law against one Avi Dandiya in connection with a video featuring a fake, edited and doctored audio clip posted by him on social media with the intention to create mistrust among citizens against defence forces and top executives to defame them,” the police said in a statement.
In the audio clip which was posted on March 1, and garnered millions of views, voice of Mr. Singh and Mr. Shah can be heard along with a woman making it sound like that the Pulwama attack was orchestrated by the government to arouse patriotic sentiment.
However, the clip indicates that sections of conversations have been lifted from several speeches and interviews of the two and edited into the clip. The case is being investigated by the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police, said a senior officer.
