Public buildings converted into MLA office, says Vijender Gupta

The Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Monday complained that the Delhi government was converting public utility buildings such as barat ghar and community halls into offices of Assembly constituencies in various parts of the city.

Mr. Gupta said space measuring up to 2,000 sq meters in these buildings was being converted into MLA office. “The booking for marriages and other social functions has been discontinued. There is great resentment amongst local public. It is apprehended by the local residents that these premises will be subsequently misused for political purposes at the cost of public requirement for social gatherings,” Mr Gupta said.

Mr. Gupta added that the Barat Ghar in village Burari had been allotted for the use of Assembly Constituency office of Burari assembly segment. “The Community Centre of Old Roshan Pura in Najafgarh has been allotted for the Najafgarh constituency. A Barat ghar in Sangam Vihar has been allotted for the Sangam Vihar Assembly Constituency. Office infrastructure like staff, furniture and equipment like Computer and fax machines are being provided by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat,” he said.

Mr Gupta said there is already shortage of affordable space for organising social functions across the city. “The Delhi Government decision has added to crunch of the suitable space for public functions, he said.
