A large number of North-West Delhi residents on Saturday held a protest against the local civic body’s plan to set up a sanitary landfill at Sultanpur Dabas village.

The ‘mahapanchayat’ gave the North Delhi Municipal Corporation an ultimatum to reverse its “anti-village” decision on the location of the proposed landfill. The event was organised by the Dehat Bachao-Khatta Hatao Sangharsh Samiti and Congress leaders Sajjan Kumar and Surender Kumar were among those who addressed the gathering.

In the next 15 days, local leaders will go door-to-door to collect signatures of five lakh villagers on a memorandum against the landfill to be given to Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung. The civic body, however, said the land had not been allotted by the Delhi Development Authority yet.
