Protest after Delhi police thrash Gramin Seva driver

Driver Sarabjeet Singh attacked policemen with a sword and injured the ASI on his head

After videos of Delhi policemen publicly thrashing a Gramin Seva driver and his minor son in Mukherjee Nagar area of North West Delhi went viral on social media, a group of Sikhs staged a protest outside the Mukherjee Nagar police station on June 16.

Vijayanta Arya, DCP (North West), said that three policemen had been suspended in connection with the incident.

Ms. Arya said that on June 16 evening the driver, Sarabjeet Singh, brushed past an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) of the police. Soon an argument broke out between an ASI and the driver. The ASI called for backup from the Mukherjee Nagar police station and when the policemen tried to detain the driver, he attacked the policemen with a sword and injured an ASI on his head.

Sarabjeet Singh was booked under Sections of attempt to murder and attacking a public servant on duty. An FIR has been registered at the Mukherjee Nagar police station and an inquiry has been ordered into the incident over the role of policemen.
