A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide over unrequited love at his residence in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri on Thursday.
The police have learnt from the family that the victim, Abhishek, was depressed over the fact that a girl he was trying to woo was not interested in him.
Texts unanswered
The last straw, said the police, were four messages he had sent to the girl on WhatsApp that went unanswered, prompting him to take the alleged step. In these messages, he had purportedly written that he loved the girl very much and couldn’t live without her.
A police officer added that he realised that she had read his messages but did not answer. No suicide note was found from the spot.
Abhishek worked as a salesman in a medical store.
Post-mortem soon
The incident was reported in the early hours of the day when a family member saw that he had hanged himself from the ceiling fan.
A call was made to the police control room and soon a police team reached the spot.
They rushed Abhishek to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The body has been preserved for post-mortem and would be handed over to the family later for the last rites.
