A man who lost his phone at Bangla Sahib Gurdwara on New Year is running from pillar to post to get an e-FIR registered as the “police server is busy”.

Sudhir Kumar, from Gurugram, said: “After I failed to register an e-FIR due to the server being down, I went to the Parliament Street police station. There, too, the server was not working. They have given me an offline copy of the FIR.”

A senior officer said, on an average, each district police registers five e-FIRs and an SMS alert is sent to all officers concerned regarding the FIR registration. Another complainant, Nitin Luthra, who was unable to register a missing phone compliant said he had raised the issue on social media.

“I was trying to file an FIR for my brother’s lost mobile phone at Hari Nagar on December 28, but every time it showed ‘server busy please try again’. In the police station, I was told to first file an e-FIR,” Mr. Luthra.

One Naresh Dagar said: “My friend lost a mobile phone and we tried to file an e-FIR but the server was not working. After this, we went to Sector 3 Rohini police station, but they refused to lodge an offline compliant. If anyone misuses the mobile, then who will be responsible?”

‘Technical glitches’

A police source said the problem might be due to technical glitches or slow internet speed. “Changing the device through which users are logging in might help resolve the issue. We are getting our systems checked,” the source added.

Another victim, Priyanka, said she had lost her ID card and was unable to register a report online. Following this, she went to Dwarka North police station to file a complaint when the officers refused to register a lost report.

The Facebook page of Delhi Police has a rating of 2.6 out of 5 by 497 people while Bengaluru city police have 4.3 out of 5 five by 6,412 people.

The user comments on the Delhi Police facebook page highlight their bad experience with the officers. In a recent comment on the Facebook page, one Gaurav Kumar wrote: “Not helpful at all. Not recommended. Extremely poor service [sic].”

The Hindu tried to make several attempts to contact the police for the same, but got no response.

Recently, the L-G Anil Baijal and Delhi Police Chief Amulya Patnaik had inaugurated public facilitation kiosk at AIIMS metro station and at IGI Airport for people to get access to online services of police, including e-FIR.
