The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday filed a police complaint against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj alleging they had deliberately hurt the sentiments of the Poorvanchali community residing in the Capital.
The complaint has been filed at the Parliament Street police station by suspended AAP MLA Kapil Mishra and BJP leader Neelkant Bakshi a day after Mr. Kejriwal took a jibe at Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari in relation to his demand for carrying out an exercise similar to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Delhi.
The complaint alleges attempts at vitiating the law and order situation in the city and hurting the sentiments of citizens belonging to the Poorvanchali community by Mr. Kejriwal and Mr. Bharadwaj.
On Wednesday, in response to a question on the possibility of an NRC in Delhi, Mr. Kejriwal said, “If NRC is implemented in Delhi, Manoj Tiwari will be the first to leave Delhi.”
Mr. Tiwari, BJP MP from north-east Delhi, who has demanded that the exercise be carried out in the Capital on more than one occasion, claimed that Mr. Kejriwal “wants to remove people from [West] Bengal, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and other States from Delhi.”
“This exposes the anti-Poorvanchali face of Kejriwal...it also seems that he has lost his mental balance,” Mr. Tiwari has countered.
Mr. Bharadwaj has asked if Mr. Tiwari had proof of residence in Delhi since 1971. Attacking the BJP, Mr. Bharadwaj said that Mr. Tiwari wanted people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand and other North Indian states to be driven out from Delhi.
