The Crime Branch unit of the Delhi Police on Monday apprehended a juvenile for the alleged murder of 55-year-old woman on the intervening night of January 1 and 2. The incident took place in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.

The juvenile belongs to the notorious Saddam Gauri Gang, which indulges in various illegal activities across the city. During interrogation, the youth confessed to his involvement in the crime.

He has been handed over to the local police for further investigation.

The victim, Shama Devi, was shot dead outside her house while she was having a bonfire. The incident was recorded on CCTV camera, which helped the police to identify the culprits.

The video footage captured two people. The police received a tip-off on January 5 that one of the accused would meet his aide near Nangloi-Najafgarh Road that evening. Following the information, the police laid a trap and nabbed the accused.

After the murder, the juvenile also made extortion calls and demanded ₹50,000 from the complainant. A case of extortion was lodged against him at Uttam Nagar police station on January 3.

The juvenile disclosed that he had recently joined the notorious gang and was ordered by the gang leader to threaten people.

The woman was allegedly involved in several cases of Excise Act and refused to pay money. Following this, the juvenile along with his associate shot her in order to terrorise others.
