The Haryana Education Department has sought police action against 135 private schools for not adhering to the Deputy Commissioner’s (Gurugram) orders to implement eight urgent points related to security of students.
The orders were issued last month in the wake of the murder of a Class II student in Ryan International School’s Bhondsi branch.
District Education Officer, Ram Kumar Phalaswal, in a letter to the Gurugram Commissioner of Police, has demanded action against school authorities under Section 188 of the IPC for not submitting compliance report with regard to the directions issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh had issued directions related to security arrangements in schools on September 25 and directed the institutes to submit a compliance report to the District Education Officer within 15 days or face action under Section 188.
Few schools responded
However, only 90 schools responded to the notice within the stipulated time and the deadline was later extended till October 18.
Ryan International School in Sector 40 figures in the list of defaulters for not submitting the compliance certificate for its primary wing.
However, a senior official in Ryan International claimed that the compliance report was submitted on October 18 and added that they were in possession of the receipt as well.
The eight points included, constitution of school safety committees with two of the representatives being parents; ensure all fire equipment are in working condition; separate toilets for non-teaching staff; installation of sufficient number of close-circuit television cameras at appropriate places; deployment of female attendants at toilets for small children; ramps and toilets for children with special needs; installation of Global Positioning System and CCTVs in school buses; and police verification of non-teaching staff.
