Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior leaders of the BJP, sources claim, are likely to make a joint public appeal in favour of the candidates fielded by it on the seven parliamentary constituencies in the Capital at the Ramlila Maidan here.
The BJP is organising multiple rallies, mostly featuring national president Amit Shah, in Delhi beginning next week.
According to party sources, these rallies will be held at locations constituting the intersection of two parliamentary constituencies per event.
“Our intent is to be able to reach out to voters residing in at least two parliamentary constituencies at each event. The event at the Ramlila Maidan is still in the works in terms of preparation and we are awaiting word on the Prime Minister’s availability for it,” said a party source.
‘Grand conclusion’
The event at the Ramlila Maidan, which sources claim has been booked by the party for 10 days, is likely to be scheduled either on May 9 or 10, and will mark the “grand conclusion” of the party’s campaign in the Capital.
Mr. Shah, sources claimed, will address three public events beginning with a rally at south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj this Tuesday, and organised with a view to drum up public support for sitting MPs Ramesh Bidhuri, Parvesh Verma and Meenakshi Lekhi who have been fielded from the South, West and New Delhi constituencies, respectively.
A similar event, party sources said, was being organised at the Shastri Park on May 1 where Mr. Shah will canvass for the party’s Delhi chief and sitting MP Manoj Tiwari who represents the North-East Delhi constituency and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir who has been fielded from the East Delhi seat.
On May 3, Mr. Shah is likely to address a gathering at the Japanese Park in Rohini where he will campaign for Chandni Chowk MP Dr. Harsh Vardhan and popular Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans who has been fielded from the North-West Delhi seat.
Sources claimed the party’s Delhi unit had requested the presence of Mr. Modi at “at least two events” in the Capital but was likely to get the go-ahead for “only one”.
