Following a report submitted by the Gautam Buddh Nagar Division Forest Officer, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has dismissed a plea moved against the development of a biodiversity park in Noida.
A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said: “We do not find it necessary to pass any order further.”
The plea, moved by NGO Social Action for Forest and Environment, had resisted against the development of a biodiversity park in Noida Sector 91, stating that “illegal felling of trees was going to take place”.
“It was alleged that construction of the biodiversity park had commenced without obtaining requisite approvals. It was also alleged that illegal felling of trees and groundwater extraction was being done for the project.”
The report by DFO read: “No tree has been felled after the felling date notified by the Divisional Sales Officer…As per the project designed by the Noida Authority, about 8,000 trees and 1,00,000 shrubs of different variety of species are to be planted in the said area, which is called as the biodiversity park.”
