A driver working with an app-based cab aggregator was allegedly robbed at knifepoint by a passenger in Connaught Place on Tuesday night.
Chinmesh Kumar, a resident of Jahangir Puri, said he got a ride request from Saket institutional area around 11.15 p.m. The cab was booked to Dwarka. Once Chinmesh had picked up his passenger, the man added a detour to Connaught Place on pretext of picking up a friend.
“The passenger made me roam around Connaught Place for 30 minutes, at 11.50 p.m, when we were between Blocks B and C, the passenger asked me to stop the cab. He pulled out a knife and asked me to hand over all the cash I had,” said the victim.
He requested the man to spare him, but the passenger threatened to kill him. “Fearing for my life, I handed over ₹5,000 to the man and he walked out of the cab and ran away. I then informed police about the incident and they insisted I file an e-FIR,” said Chinmesh.
“I have filed an e-FIR but received no response from the police. I requested the cab aggregator to share the contact details of the passenger who booked the cab, but they refused to share it. Everyone talks about safety of passengers but people are least bothered about the driver’s security,” said the victim.
A senior police officer said that they are going through the details of the case.
