An association representing parents of children studying in Delhi’s government schools on Saturday threatened to stage a protest outside the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over a ‘disproportionately large’ number of Class IX students failing the annual exams.
The All India Parents’ Association (AIPA) has written a letter to Kejriwal apprising him that a large number of Class IX students have failed to clear annual examination in 2014-15, said the outfit’s president Ashok Agarwal.
“Incidents of suicide by failed students have also been reported by newspapers. The Delhi government should consider either promoting these students to Class X or at least giving them a second chance to clear the exams and should hold remedial classes for them in either case,” he said.
The AIPA in its meeting held recently at Jantar Mantar had decided to stage a protest demonstration at the official residence of the CM on May 24, if no favourable response is received on the demands, he added. — PTI
