Parents, teachers and alumni of Ramjas School at Anand Parvat on Tuesday protested outside the Ramjas Foundation office in Daryaganj against the alleged “misuse of power” by school Principal Sandhya Bindal.

Corporal punishment

The protesters said that despite the Deputy Director of Education (District West-A) writing to the chairman of Ramjas School on April 27 saying that they had probed allegations levelled against the principal and had found that the school administration was “involved in corporal punishment”, the school management had not taken any action.

The letter to the chairman directed him to initiate action against the principal and address all grievances.

It further asked the chairman to instruct the principal to maintain “a good atmosphere in the school” and that “no discriminating actions should be taken against students whose parents are involved in litigation with the school authorities”.

Closed since May 5

The parents said the school has been closed since May 5 on orders of the school management and they were informed that a meeting would be held to sort out the issue on Tuesday.

However, the meeting was postponed on Tuesday.

Mukesh Sharma, a parent, said: “Ms. Bindal was caught planning and plotting against a 14-year-old student in an audio clip. She levelled false allegations against the student, framed him and suspended him from the school. This is just one of many such instances and such behaviour from the principal of the school is really dangerous for the students.”

Responding to the protesters, Ms. Bindal said all allegations against her were false and part of a conspiracy hatched against her by teachers and outsiders.

‘False allegations’

“None of the people protesting are parents. They are outsiders with vested interests. I hope the management of the school will investigate and take appropriate action against them,” she said.

‘Callous attitude’

The parents on Tuesday directed their anger at the school management saying that “the callous attitude of the management proves that they are party to the conspiracy by the principal. We will see to it that each of the persons involved gets punished and not a single child becomes their target”.

The staff of the school, in a letter to the school’s management, alleged that Ms. Bindal had made the school “an unsafe place to work” and that many good students and teachers had left the school since she took over.
