The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a circular informing parents of students in government schools that the “mega parent-teacher meeting (PTM) scheduled to be held on April 20 will be kept in abeyance till further orders”.

The DoE has asked all heads of the schools to contact parents via their mobile phone numbers directly to inform them that the meet has been called off due to the model code of conduct being in place for the Lok Sabha election. It has also asked all education officers to ensure that no parent-teacher meetings are held in any government schools on April 20.

During the last mega PTM held on January 29, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal came under criticism from Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta for politicising the event. Mr. Kejriwal had appealed to parents to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and ensure their victory in all seven Lok Sabha seats.

“If you love your children, vote for those who are working for them and if you do not love your children then go and vote for PM Modi. Modi has not built even a single classroom or a school. You have to choose between love for nation or love for Modi,” Mr. Kejriwal had said.

The event has been streamed live to all 731 DoE school buildings.

BJP takes credit

Meanwhile, the BJP claimed that it was on the basis of its complaint that orders to cancel the mega PTM were issued.

Welcoming the decision of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari alleged that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government was violating the model code of conduct by “misleading the parents.”
