Panel to monitor women’s safety

October 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

To review the safety measures taken up for women in the city, a high-level committee has been constituted with the Lieutenant Governor, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson and Delhi Police Commissioner along with the Home Secretary being part of the panel to monitor the situation.

DCW chairperson, after a meeting with L-G Najeeb Jung said that the poor coordination between the Centre, the Delhi government and the police has led to rise in crime against women.

“The committee will review the existing women safety measures to check crimes against women in the national capital,” Ms Maliwal said.

The meeting will take place twice a month and the first meeting has been called on November 3 and 4 to work out the details and the function of the committee.

During the meeting with the L-G, FIRs and charge sheets filed in cases involving crime against women and the complaints that have come in through the Delhi Police’s Himmat mobile app for women safety were taken up.

The DCW chief had met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday and discussed several issues related to women safety.

These included that of holding the police accountable for crimes against women and minors.
