Member of Parliament from Karnataka, Shobha Karandlaje, allegedly lost ₹15.62 lakh from her salary account to cybercriminals, the police said on Tuesday.

Ms. Karandlaje approached North Avenue police station with a complaint on Tuesday.

She stated that last week when she got her salary account entry book updated, she found that ₹15.62 lakh was missing.

The account was hacked and multiple transactions were made in December 2018 on several instances, she said.

“It was shocking for me because usually, I get SMS alerts of transactions but this huge amount was syphoned off from my account and I did not get a single message alert,” said Ms. Karandlaje.

She is a BJP MP from Udupi Chikmagalur constituency in Karnataka.

Transferred to cyber cell

“We have registered a case into the matter at North Avenue police station under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code. It will be transferred to the cyber cell for detailed investigation. We are getting the details of the transactions from the bank to find out whether the transactions were done in the country or from outside the country,” said a police officer.
