The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police claimed to have arrested over 100 wanted criminals from across the district over the past two days.

A special drive named Vajra was launched at midnight on January 11, the police said, adding that it continued till January 13.

Gautam Buddha Nagar SSP Vaibhav Krishna had directed officers of all 22 police stations in the district to find persons accused of heinous crimes like murder, rape and illegal activities, including attempt to murder. He also asked the officers to look for those who had been served a non-bailable warrant.

The arrested persons include five murder accused, 14 accused in robbery cases, 13 booked under the Gangsters Act, eight booked for attempt to murder and two rape accused. Apart from this, 24 sentenced for more than seven years in prison were arrested under the operation. Another 46 accused, against whom the court issued an NBW, were also nabbed, the police said.

Mr. Krishna said the operation was carried out to nab all 250 absconding accused in the district. “The objective was to clean up the past record in order to serve justice,” Mr. Krishna said.
