One killed as speeding car hits two vehicles

A 48-year-old woman was killed and three others suffered injuries when a speeding car hit two vehicles in Civil Lines on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Monika Bhardwaj said that the deceased, Rajeshwari Yadav, was a resident of Laxmi Nagar. The injured are her daughters Deepti (26) and Jyotsna (24), and the driver of the car they were travelling in Ishwar Singh (55).

The police said they got a call about the incident around 4 p.m. Initial probe revealed that the offending driver, Shrey Gupta (20), a resident of Timarpur, was with his three friends and going from Civil Lines towards Indraprastha College.

“Near Vidhan Sabha metro station, he took a sharp turn in a rash and negligent manner and hit two sedan cars,” Ms. Bhardwaj said.

The police said that Rajeshwari was rushed to Parmanand Hospital where she was declared brought dead. Her daughters Deepti and Jyotsna suffered minor injuries. Driver Ishwar Singh suffered a leg fracture. The driver of the other vehicle, Sonu, escaped unhurt.

Shrey also suffered minor injuries and was discharged after treatment. The police said that a case is being lodged based on the complaint of Sonu and that the accused will be arrested.
