A 35-year-old woman died while her husband and son are battling for life after they were allegedly stabbed multiple times by their neighbour in west Delhi’s Khyala on Wednesday evening, the police said. The accused, Mohammad Azad, is absconding.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said the victims have been identified as Sunita, her 41-year-old husband Viru and their 20-year-old son Aakash. Both the accused and the victims are residents of Khayala.

A senior officer said a water bottle belonging to Sunita’s daughter had fallen from the terrace four days ago and hit the accused.

“The bottle hit Azad, who was passing by. He got angry and fought with Sunita’s husband. Other locals intervened and the issue was resolved, ” the officer said.

However, Azad waylaid Sunita while she was returning home from the market on Wednesday evening and started arguing with her over the same issue, the police said.

Knife attack

“She told Azad to speak to her properly or to talk to her husband, but the accused continued to argue with her. Sunita told her husband and son about the incident,” the officer said.

Aakash went to speak to Azad but they started arguing and the accused stabbed the youth with a knife. Aakash’s parents saw him injured and came to his rescue. They too were stabbed multiple times by the accused, the police said, adding that Azad fled the spot immediately.

The neighbours called the police around 7.30 p.m. A team reached the spot and rushed the three victims to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, where Sunita succumbed to her injuries.

“Viru is critical and Aakash has also sustained severe injuries,” the officer said. The police have registered a murder case and are looking for the accused.

Video footage

The incident happened in front of several neighbours, some of whom captured it on video. In the video of the incident, the accused can be seen stabbing Viru with a knife as neighbours watched and screamed.
