Odisha govt. to launch ‘Mo College’ programme

To facilitate former students to give back to their alma maters

The Odisha government will soon launch the ‘Mo College (my college)’ programme on the lines of its ‘Mo School (my school)’ scheme to promote and facilitate volunteers to give back to alma maters.

Replying to an adjournment motion in the Assembly on the issues facing higher education in the State, Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo on Tuesday informed that through the Mo College programme the State government will take steps for manifold development of colleges with the support of former students.

The Mo School programme was launched on the occasion of Children’s Day in 2017 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The scheme has been getting good response with alumni based in different parts of the country and abroad coming forward to be a part of their schools’ development.

New colleges

The Minister further informed the House that six new degree colleges will be set up at Balangir, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Koraput and Gajapati districts under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. There are 52 government degree colleges and eight model degree colleges in the State at present.

He further informed the House that 426 of the total of 526 vacant posts in different colleges and universities in the State are being filled up.
