Notice to NACO on supply of condoms

October 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:43 am IST - New Delhi:

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has sent a notice to the National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) as till date no information on the supply of condoms at G B Road has been passed over. Last month, the DCW had asked for details as there is an acute shortage of condoms in Delhi’s red light area since May.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said on September 18, she had written to the additional secretary, NACO, seeking a detailed report on the current status of supply of condoms to the Delhi State Aids Control Society along with the reasons for the gap in supply. “But there is no reply from the NACO till date.” She said around 5,000 women at G B Road are at a high risk of contracting HIV as there is shortage of the contraceptives. Meanwhile, the Delhi government has decided to procure four lakh contraceptives to distribute among the sex workers.
