The standing committee of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation passed a policy for online issuance and renewal of licences for household industries at a meeting on Friday.

Licenses for household industries were not issued from April 2011, after the Citizen Service Bureau of the corporation started issuing licences only in case of conforming industrial areas and for local commercial areas.

The policy allows industries that come under the A and A-1 categories of the master plan of Delhi 2021 to be run from residential areas. While polluting industries are prohibited and fire-prone material may not be stored, up to 112 types of activities may be carried out, including making electronic items, sewing machines, typewriters, agarbattis and others. Apart from this, nine activities, including black smithy, production of ice cream and water cooling and others may be carried out in villages, the policy states.

Under the policy, the industry is allowed to hire a maximum of five workers and the working hours are limited to 8 a.m.- 6 p.m..

A similar policy had been approved by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in December.
